Although it hasn’t been driven much in recent years, it has been meticulously maintained by Mercedes-Benz. Impressive Legacy
In 1952, Mercedes-Benz built just ten examples of the original 300 SL Coupé, a race-bred car instantly recognizable by its gullwing doors. The car competed with great success in events like the Mille Miglia and Carrera Panamericana. Due to overwhelming interest in the design, Mercedes-Benz eventually put the 300 SL into production between 1954 and 1957, building 1,400 units. In 2007, Mercedes-Benz revealed a prototype once again featuring those iconic gullwing doors. The SLS AMG was officially launched in 2009 as the successor to the SLR McLaren—and it was instantly seen as a spiritual revival of the 300 SL “Gullwing.” The gullwing doors, the long hood, the seating pushed far to the rear, these were functional features on the 300 SL but are design elements on the SLS AMG. The SLS is also the first car to be entirely developed and built by AMG.
