DESIGN
As luck would have it, Aston Martin has never delivered an ugly car. But the DB9 Volante is so breathtakingly beautiful, it's hard to put into words. Rarely has a convertible version of a coupé had such incredibly elegant lines, and with the roof down, it becomes even more stunning. Aston Martin introduced the DB9 coupé in 2004, and experts agree that it is likely one of the finest works by the exceptionally talented designer Ian Callum. When the foundation is that good, the rest can hardly go wrong. So it was no surprise to anyone that the DB9 turned out to be a visual masterpiece. However, where Aston Martins of the past were often beautiful to behold, they weren’t always enjoyable to drive. That changed with the DB9. Its chassis is built with double wishbones all around, and the dampers and springs are perfectly tuned. For the Volante, the setup was made slightly softer to compensate for the small weight difference compared to the coupé.
UNIQUE HISTORY
This particular example was delivered new to its first owner in 2006. He found it so beautiful to look at that he never actually drove it. Remarkable, especially considering how impeccably it was specified. The DB9 was finished in timeless “Titanium Silver” with a Phantom Grey/Falcon Grey interior. The soft top was ordered in a stylish dark grey, a fresh alternative to the more common black. On top of that, he selected an impressive list of options, including the fantastic Linn audio system, automatic transmission, smoker’s pack, black brake calipers, mahogany wood interior trim, front grille, two-tone steering wheel, navigation system, built-in phone (2006 really was a long time ago), wind deflector, full leather interior, and contrasting stitching. In short, a stunning car to behold.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
But standing still is going backwards, so we’ve recommissioned the car for you from top to bottom. She received a full major service, we carefully put a few cautious miles on her, and fitted new tires. All of this to ensure that this DB9 can finally live the life she deserves. Aston Martin truly went all out at the time to make the DB9 the ultimate driver’s car. It’s powered by a 5.9-liter V12 engine delivering 450 hp. The engine is mated to a smooth-shifting automatic ZF transmission. The seating position is perfect thanks to the wonderfully supportive sport seats, and since the DB9 is a true 2+2, there’s even room for two children or some extra luggage in the back. A Grand Tourer in the truest sense of the word.
It doesn’t really matter where you take this stately British cruiser. You could use it every day as the daily driver of your dreams, benefiting from tax advantages such as the Youngtimer scheme and reclaimable VAT or you could save it for those special drives. Whatever the case, the DB9 Volante will make every journey a memorable one, with its stunning lines, that glorious engine sound, and its unbelievably beautiful interior. It’s safe to say: they really did make them better in the old days.
The Volante is currently registered in Germany, and the price is based on that. Delivery with Dutch registration can, of course, be arranged upon request.
